Self Study 3

The area chosen for this self study was the area around the GPO building done within the first self study. Of course this area of the city is rather crowded, so I only fleshed out the rest of the GPO building and the basic outline of Franklin Square.

First was modeling the basic landscape of this area.

This was done using the Unity Terrain Tools addon, but due to the simplicity of local terrain, I didn't have to try and make anything that complex. The main thing was to try and have the gentle slope down that the main road has going past the GPO.

Next was building the rest of the GPO.

This was mainly done using the Unity ProBuilder addon, which allows for creating basic models without having to use external modeling software. To make the arches and "hollow" area inside the building, I used the experimental boolean to subtract another model of that shape from the building. Also stuck the tower from the first self-study onto it.

Next was the basic outline of Franklin Square.

This was also all done using ProBuilder to draw out the basic pavement outline, and also mainly used the boolean tool to construct the fountain by adding and subtracting various shapes.

Definitely would say that while ProBuilder is useful, the boolean tool tends to really over-complicate up the mesh, and makes them very difficult to edit afterwards.
