Self Study 1

This first self study was a crash course in blender!

First the barrel. No too crazy, but felt the tutorial could have explained the importance of normal facing direction.

For the main self study task, I decided to model the main tower of the General Post Office in Hobart. It's a prominent historical building that sits right in the middle of the city and adds a nice sense of history.

The other reason I choose it was due to the symmetry and complexity of its design. Due to the complexity, I only focused on the main tower, and only with the surface details.

Rather simple and a bit off scale, but most of surface shapes are there. Offered work with array and boolean modifiers, and plenty of use of the extrusion, inset, and bevel tools.

If I was to do it again, I'd model directly on top of a front-facing image to ensure all the proportions were correct.
